The Albert Sherman Center at UMASS Medical School
The Albert Sherman Center at the University of Massachusetts Medical School is a 512,000 s.f. (47600 s.m.) facility for advanced biomedical research and medical education. The building is 11 stories high and is clad with 55,000 s.f. (5100 s.m.) of light gray terracotta tiles. The exterior façade is designed to show texture by using a combination of natural, wire struck (fine peeled), and sandblasted finishes on the flat tiles, and corduroy profiled tiles.
Emphasis by the architects on using sustainable products, such as terracotta, earned a LEED Gold certification for the project.
