The Leipzig Markt station is a real jewel among the suburban railway stations. Designed as an arched passage, the interior opens up via bridges, balconies and generously proportioned staircase units. Slimline steel supports bear the weight of the white concrete ceiling, which is designed as a beam relief. The use of bright yellow ceramic elements across the board creates a light, almost dignified atmosphere. Here, the use of terracotta elements extends beyond the wall cladding, with the material also used as the floor covering, for the tactile warning strips in the ground for the blind, as escalator steps and for washroom fittings.
