Palais van Justitie, Amsterdam
Two spectacular buildings with impressive shapes, connected by a steel bridge on the sixth floor, form the complex of the new law courts, which forms part of an ensemble with three further new buildings situated on a peninsula right in the heart of Amsterdam. The court house has an unmistakeably one-off identity and a unique form of expression, and presents itself as a timeless, expressive and abstract piece of architecture. The outside walls are defined by natural stone, ceramic, concrete, glazed bricks and powder-coated steel, all in shades of white and grey, which extend around the building in horizontal bands at different heights. The terracotta elements used are white-glazed TERRART® elements manufactured using ram press technology, which combine together to form a fine, delicate pattern.
