Winchester Sport and Leisure Park: The 40-year-old facility was replaced by a completely new building that sets standards with a 50-metre swimming pool, teaching pool, multi-purpose gym and climbing facility, plus four squash courts, treatment rooms and other sports studios and training areas.
The outstanding façade design deserves special mention: it consists of a variety of different materials, which required very careful installation planning as well as detailing of the workmanship and interfaces. This was especially true for the ceramic elements that enclose large parts of the structure. The ceramic tiles on the ground floor are profiled in a wave-like manner, their vertical alignment creating a ‘flowing effect’. TERRART® baguettes with an elliptical cross-section were invisibly fixed in front of the glazed areas, forming an airy grid pattern. Each baguette was assembled on site and positioned based on nearly 200 detailed drawings and with laser assistance.
