Battersea Exchange

The new construction of the residential and commercial building is part of a massive revitalisation project covering 227 hectares on the South Bank of the Thames, from Vauxhall through Nine Elms to Battersea. One of London’s most iconic landmarks, Battersea Power Station, provides the backdrop for this elegant 16-storey tower, which brings new life to the historic quarter: in a spacious and contemporary design, clear lines set the tone, emanating from the expansive glass panels and the ceramics with white crackled glaze. The slender terracotta panels are applied vertically. As well as covering the closed façade sections, they also constitute prominent framings in front of the external surfaces and the
partition walls on the loggias. They appear as smooth elements in the basement and with profiles and vaulting on the balconies. The variable use of the terracotta with its generally understated shapes and colour results in an effective look and impact.
