51st 52nd 53rd and Oak Street

With Whole Foods anchoring the first floor of this mixed-use residential tower in a coveted pocket of Kansas City, the architect wanted to add a sophisticated pop of colour. They envisioned an earthy green colour scheme that paid homage to the grocer’s signage and introduced an alluring, satiny polish to the façade. Green TERRART®-Mid tiles in a smooth, matte Engobe finish emerged as the design solution that could meet their goals. A variation of light, medium and dark shades of greens added a sense of colour and subtle shine to the exterior.

The application of terracotta at 51st and Oak also speaks to a broader trend of architects incorporating terracotta as a high-end design accent in new multi-use residential complexes. These complexes are designed to attract professionals as well as young families attracted to a convenient, amenity-driven lifestyle.
