Nano Institute

Munich, Königinstraße 10, 80539 München

Project Description

This new university institute is both a flagship project and an infrastructure measure reflecting the transition to renewable energy at the same time, since it is here that fundamental research will be carried out into photovoltaics and photocatalysis.

The compact, symmetrical building has a horizontal structure and speaks a modern design language. The closed façade surfaces have been clad with vertical ceramic panels that feature clear profiles and light glazing – thus reflecting the research into nano coatings that is going on inside the building. The design alternates different shapes and profiles, which gives the outer shell a distinctive structure and a certain vitality. At the rear base area, where the building opens out towards the green space of the Englischer Garten, the terracotta boasts a blue-green glaze.
