From the existing inner courtyard of the old university buildings, the architects have created a glass-covered, three-storey atrium as a new focal point for study and social interaction, thus giving the area a basic infrastructure at the same time. The terracotta of the renovated facades reprises the shade of the classic buildings and blends superbly with the white marble floor, which was salvaged from the former library. In addition, it conceals the sound and heat insulation that puts the building in line with modern sustainability and efficiency standards. The light, airy room boasts seven fabric-covered artworks in the form of Greek amphorae, a reference to the collection of antiquities in the basement.
