Ecole des Mines de Nancy

Steel, glass and crimson ceramics combine to make this building a real eye-catcher. The engineering college in Nancy comprises a rectangular main building with an exciting front section that combines a steel frame with glass and forms a type of foyer in front of the entrance area. The closed fronts are clad with glazed TERRARTR-Large panels in two striking shades of red that are blended to deliver an evenly mottled effect. Slender slots were applied to the ceramic elements for the interior areas after firing – the slats help to reduce noise – after which they were then glazed in the second firing stage.
