Heldentoren
This complex of three different building structures forms a new landmark in the coastal town of Knokke-Heist and, with its 70-metre-high tower, rises above most of the buildings along the Belgian North Sea coast. The horizontal elements, which are arranged at different distances and in different shapes, some of them looking as if they had been stacked, stand out as an architectural feature and create a sculptural dimension. Special ceramic panels with a vertical wave-like relief were developed for the project’s façade, which mirrors the movements of the North Sea: Over the course of the day, the dynamic surfaces create a constantly changing visual effect in the interplay of sunlight and shadow.
