Europaparlament Berlaymont, Brussels
The Berlaymont Building in Brussles houses the headquarters of the EU Commission. After the large-scale renovation, the building which resembles a hull now has been returned to its former glory. The old beton façade has been replaced by a glass and steel façade construction that, despite its dimensions, seems surprisingly light and delicate. The front-mounted lamellas of this façade let light and warmth into the building, but also give shadow and coolness, when necessary. Although TERRART®-LARGE panels in light orange clad a relatively small area of the frontage they stand out by dint of their sheer visual appeal. This alters the balance of the building parts in relation to their size and shifts the right and left wings to the background.
