On a surface area measuring a total of 26,000 square metres, on the Asian side of Istanbul, an impressive new university campus has been developed. Opened only recently, this university is dedicated to training doctors and medical personnel, and conducts high-quality research and scientific work in health care. Uniform design features form an architectural “bracket”, bringing research areas, teaching buildings and student living areas together. In addition to the large glass areas, the brick-red ceramic cladding is eye catching and can be found on all campus buildings in different forms and layouts. TERRART® Baguettes form delicate vertical blinds in front of the windows and offer protection from the sun, while TERRART® Light elements fill the closed facade surfaces, or frame and structure parts of the fronts. In some places, they also incorporate striking mosaics that form a decorative pattern running through all buildings – these are influenced by historic Turkish motifs as an expression of cultural identity. The building has been certified as a low-energy construction – the ceramic facade making its own contribution to this.
