With Whole Foods anchoring the first floor of a new mixeduse residential tower in a coveted pocket of Kansas City, the architect wanted to add a sophisticated pop of color. The architect envisioned an earthy green color scheme that paid homage to the grocer’s signage, introduced an alluring, satiny polish to the façade, and yet accomplished this in a cost-effective way. Green TERRART® Mid tiles in a smooth, matte Engobe finish emerged as the design solution that could meet each of these goals. A variation of light, medium and dark shades of greens added a sense of color and subtle shine to the exterior in an economical manner in the first USbased Engobe project.

The application of terracotta at 51st and Oak also speaks to a wider trend of architects incorporating terracotta as a high-end design accent paired with other materials in new multi-use residential complexes, which lure professionals and young families attracted to the convenient,
amenity-driven lifestyle offered.
