United States Courthouse, San Diego

The courthouse with its postmodernist style features terracotta cladding in a special white color. The fine structure of the profiled panels on the closed parts of the facade finds a corresponding counterpart in the slim baguette elements that act as transparent parapets that skirt along the windows or as small sun roofs. Decorative details reveal a mix of curved baguettes and narrow terracotta elements mounted on their sides – spaced at varying intervals, these elements are combined into a suspended structure that offers a view onto the underlying parts of the building.
