Löwenbräu Areal, Zurich

Two new towers rise above the old brewery of the Lowenbrau site, their dimensions in keeping with those of the silos. The 38-m high „Red“ office complex comprises the listed main brewery building from 1897 and the extension. With its striking red-glazed, undulating ceramic plates, the facade reinterprets the typical color of the existing brick building. The 70-m high residential building „Lowenbrau Black“ is a prominent landmark that redefines the city’s skyline. Simple, but bold in form and dimensions, it rises above the listed brewery, and yet its striking projection serves to enrich this historic building. The design is complemented by the cladding with its black-glazed, highly projecting, undulating ceramic plates in a shingle-like formation.
