Aurora Place, Sydney

While Renzo Piano, backed by his Building Workshop Genoa, was designing the office and residential building at 88 Phillip Street/155 Macquarie Street in Sydney, Australia, the Potsdamer Platz scheme was nearing completion. Although clear parallels emerge between the façade designs of the two projects, the Sydney façade was developed separately and adopts its own architectonic vocabulary and alternative fixing arrangements. Key factors determining Piano’s choice of façade system in Australia included the possibility of producing a wide variety of special units while working to the same dimensions as with a natural stone façade. In terms of logistics and site operations (Civic and civic), the project showed that the TERRART®-system can be successfully implemented worldwide.
