Marmalade Library

The new library building has a captivating presence and identity, chiefly on account of its visible architectural hierarchy that draws a clear distinction between three levels: the ground floor forms the understated base, the second floor is emphasised by overhanging corner mouldings, and the roof structure with a small terrace rounds everything off. Impressive architectural details, materials and texture ensure an appealing appearance and create a link with the surroundings. Along with glass, steel and concrete, attractive coloured terracotta baguettes have been used. They serve as an outer sunshade outside the glass frontages at the front end, and take on their own dynamic, passively providing shade by day, and giving off a lanternesque glow by night.
